Eddie always up for the challenge.Times are tough right now for a lot of people. Stopped at Wawa the other day for a cup of coffee. While checking out, the gentleman in front of me who was purchasing a cup of coffee and a sandwich handed over his credit card to the clerk only to discover there were no funds available in his account. Clerk apologized but the man looked very embarrassed in front a line of impatient customers. So I handed the clerk the money and paid for it. The man looked at me in the eyes and said thanks. Thinking about it afterwards, this little incident struck me a small sign of the times. Yes, perhaps I made a mistake and the guy has a horrible drinking or gambling habit explaining the lack of funds in his account but honestly who really cares. It was the good thing to do. It made me feel good and whenever I have the opportunity to help someone out I will.
Last week an old SC member called me to say he wanted to get back into it and return to the club from a few months off of training. He went on to say how bad the last couple of months have been and he felt really depressed. He said he never felt better in his life when he was training regularly at the club and the positive environment was just what he needed.
Not all the time do people tell directly that they need your help. Whether you know it or not, there are plenty of people out there who are in a bad situation or funk and cannot find a way to get out of it. Steve's Club is that place to go for a lot of people who for various reasons just not in a good place. Using CrossFit as our tool, we focus the energy to training the body and mind to see through the fog. I'm very lucky in the sense, that many young guys have a connection now and my number to know when times are tough, your taking a step to get yourself back on track. With consistently and hard work, we'll help get you there...feeling good about life and yourself.
What I preach is, USE YOUR BEST RESOURCES TO DO WHAT YOU CAN DO. And
that's what I'm doing. Doing what I do best, trying to reach as many young guys in Camden as possible and give them a positive place to come to strengthen their brain, heart and body.
And I'm sure you might say, "Well, that's great for YOU, but
what am I supposed to do? I'm just a banker, just a plumber,
just a realtor, just a firefighter, just a computer programmer---fill in the blank.
The truth is we have to stop teaching our kids that only
OTHER people count. I think we need to make it a top-priority goal for
us to teach our children that it isn't just people with special jobs
who are going to make the world a better place. If the world changes, it will be because people
finally woke up to the fact that making the world a better place isn't the work of
specialists. It's work we all CAN do---and all MUST do.
Caring goes a long way!
