Fitness shouldn't be a chore or something you dread doing. Fitness should be fun. Fitness should be play. Running around an open field playing sticks and jumping on stones with no care in the world besides enjoying and living in the moment, forgetting about what you did an hour ago or what you're going to do tomorrow...is perfectly acceptable and one example of what fitness can be.
Despite the freezing cold weather today restricting us from going outside today to play and lift stuff and run around...we made today's activity at Steve's Club all about play.
Of course our definition is slightly different then what most think of play. After all, we are Crossfitters and our goal is to get our athletes fitter, faster, stronger, and more powerful. Not to mention better people in the gym and outside the gym encompassing a total package of strong mind, body and spirit.
Our play is not school recess, nor am I a gym teacher putting kids through a game of kick the ball!
Today, I had the kids pick up a huge mountain of weights and other odd objects including a #100 sandbag, 70 pood kettlebells, #20 medicine balls, and #45 bumper plates. The goal was to move the whole mountain of weights from one side of the gym to the other (in teams of 3) AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. Then we would record each team's time. We did this several times as a super fun and demanding workout or shall I say form of play!
